Library as Growth Medium
This project aims to interrogate how social infrastructure can act as a catalyst for community interaction; the library as growth medium - encouraging the emergence of both ecological and social phenomena through the interspersing of programmed microclimatic spaces across the site.
What are the lighting requirements of the reading room, what are the temperature requirements of the media archive? By cross-referencing these parameters against optimal growth conditions for local flora, a hybrid organization emerges.
Indoor, climate-controlled space on one side, outdoor, uncontrolled space on the other, and the pixelized gradient that exists in between.
Similar to the pop-up outdoor seating all over the city in response to the pandemic, this library operates on a system of increasingly more permeable membranes, a boundary layer that that acts as a circulation path for humans and non-humans alike.
